First proposal was entitled “Variation of arsenic concentrations of populations exposed to arsenic in the Mekong River basin of Cambodia” prepared by Mr. President. The objective of this proposal is to investigate the overall change in arsenic concentrations among populations exposed to arsenic in Cambodia. The study will be carried out in two provinces, where Kandal province was selected as a contaminated area and Kampong Cham was selected as a control area. The outcome of this project will be used as a baseline database to monitor the overall change of arsenic concentrations among the arsenic-exposed populations in the Mekong River basin of Cambodia. Moreover, the involved participants will know their current health status associated with arsenic concentrations in their bodies.
Second proposal was entitled “Assessment of frequently-used pesticide residues in vegetable in the Mekong River basin of Cambodia” prepared by Mr. Lina Hem. The objective of the second proposal is to investigate the number and type of frequently-used pesticides and determine the pesticide residues in the vegetables. This study will be conducted in three provinces in the Mekong River basin of Cambodia namely Kandal, Prey Veng and Kampong Cham, where pesticides have been widely used.
The projects will last for one year from the approved date, which tentatively start from June 2012, with the proposed budget of USD 12,000 per each.
