Time to be graduate

In South Korea, this day is the period of thesis defense for most of graduate students who have studied and are going to graduate in February 2011. For Chonnam National University (CNU), the thesis defense period has been started from Nov to Dec 2010, depending on individual department.
The Department of Biotechnology, occasionally, the thesis defense will be carried out on 3rd Dec 2010. There are two Master and three PhD course candidates will defend their thesis. Mr. Thavrak Huon, one of Cambodian student in CNU and former president of CNU-CSA, will defend his thesis in the title of "Oxylipin formation by fusion proteins of allene oxide synthase with lipoxygenase or allene oxide cyclase" at 4:50 to 5:30 pm, room 419, building 4, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Chonnam National University. CNU-CSA wishes him success in his hard time and final one to be graduated.

Visitors from Mean Chey University


In these couple weeks, there are two Cambodian visitors in Chonnam National University (CNU). Mr. KONG Vannak and Mr. NGY socheat, vice dean of Faculty of agriculture and food processing, Mean Chey University (MCU), Cambodia; will continue their trip until the middle of December 2010.

The main purposes of the trip are to do some kinds of experiments on food microbiology and food safety at laboratories of food processing and preservation and food microbiology; and and to discuss with dean and professors of College of Agriculture and Life Science, CNU for our joint research project, future collaborations, and student exchange programs between our schools, Vannak said.

The College of Agriculture and Life Science, CNU and MCU were conducted their MOU on 28th March 2010. CNU-CSA fully hope that the MOU and this kind of trip will be able promote the relationship between two universities, especially, we wish to see more Cambodian students come to continue their study in CNU.

Korean Government Scholarship Program

2011 Korean Government Scholarship Program for International Students for an Undergraduate Course




1. Program Objective

The objective of the Korean Government Scholarship Program for an Undergraduate Course is to provide international students with the opportunity to conduct advanced studies at higher educational institutions in Korea in order to promote international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between the countries.

2. Total Candidates for Selection: 100 people from 59countries

Only those who hold a citizenship of the countries in the attachment are eligible for the program.

3. Academic Programs

Undergraduate degree courses for four years after successfully completing a one-year Korean Language Training. ※ University transferring is not allowed (e.g. Beginning from the 3rd year is not allowed.)

4. Fields of Study

4-year undergraduate courses provided by the universities designated by NIIED

※ Not applicable: fields the study period of which exceeds 4 years (e.g. medicine, dentistry, architecture)

Korean Study

Recently, Korean Language Study Club has been built by CNU-CSA. It strongly focuses on promoting the relationship between members and improving Korean speaking ability. This group is directed by Mr. Chum, Puthy Roath and assisted by Mr. Nop, Sophea Donang.

This group was already held the meeting two times, on September 25th and October 11th, 2010. The meetings were discussed about making Korean self-study books which explained in Khmer. Even though all members are very busy with their own classes, homework, and so on, there were a lot of members, who could share their time joining this group discussion. These indicated that we are now on the right way improving our Association Activities.

The top 10 CNN Heroes of 2010

(CNN) -- A Scotsman providing free daily meals to 400,000 children, a former child soldier clearing land mines in Cambodia and a Texas builder giving injured vets mortgage-free homes are among the top 10 CNN Heroes of 2010.

The top 10 -- remarkable individuals nominated by viewers for their sacrifices and accomplishments -- were revealed by CNN's Anderson Cooper at 1 p.m. Thursday on CNN.com.

This year marks CNN's fourth annual global search for everyday individuals changing the world. Since January, the network has aired weekly profiles of CNN Heroes, chosen from more than 10,000 nominations submitted by viewers in 100 countries.

Aki Ra is helping to make Cambodia safer by clearing land mines, many of which he planted years ago as a child soldier.

Meeting on 11th Sep 2010

On September 11th, 2010, Cambodian Student Association at Chonnam National University held first meeting after the 4th election. The meeting was attended by president, Mr. Sereyvath Yoeun, vice-president, Mr. Kongkea Phan, and other ten members.

Two main topics were put into meeting agenda including preparation of Korean book, which explain in Khmer; and financial contribution of member for supporting association activities.

After two hours (8:00 pm to 10:00 pm) discussion, the meeting was found their appreciate results by building up a Korean Education Center of Cambodian Student Association at Chonnam National University. Mr. Puthy Roath Chum and Mr. Sophea Donang Nop were recruited as head and secretary, respectively; and Mr. Sansouci Ty, Sereyvath Yoeun, Veasna Phan, Sovannarith Ngoun as the member.

In the shortly future, we do expect that CNU-CSA will be able public Korean language book which describe in Khmer.

Updated information on new members

There are four new Khmer students, has arrived Chonnam National University (CNU) for their master course. They have been in CNU campus since the end of August. Mr. Chankrasna Im comes for his master degree of General Management at College of Business Administration, Mr. Sophearith Yen and Mr. Saophuong Neung come for their master degree of Geology, whereas Mr. Sovannarith Ngoun comes for master degree of Educational Administration. We appreciate and welcome to all of four new members to join our Association (CNU-CSA).

The 4th election for the president and vice president of CNU-CSA


The 4th election for the president and vice-president of CNU-CSA hold on August 29, 2010 at Chonnam National University campus. Mr. Sereyvath Yoeun has been elected as the president of CNU-CSA and Mr. Kongkea Phan has been elected as the vice president of CNU-CSA by Cambodian students at Chonnam National University.

On the other hand, Mr. Sophea Donang Nop has also been selected as the general secretary of CNU-CSA by Mr. President at that day too.

Last month, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Chonnam National University (CALS CNU) was preparing to donate many books to Mean Chey University in Banteay Mean Chey Province, Cambodia.

CALS CNU concluded an MOU for establishing a sisterhood university relationship with Mean Chey University (MCU) in Cambodia on April 3rd to prepare for the knowledge-based society in the globalized future.

A dinner for celebrating Cambodian new year

In this year, CNU-CSA does not make a big party to celebrate Cambodian happy new year because of the economic crisis. To celebrate Cambodian happy new year, we just had a dinner together on April 16, at a restaurant. There are many students came to have a dinner such as 10 Cambodian students (9 students from Chonnam National University and a student from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology), a Kazakh student, and a Kirghiz student. All people enjoyed talking together and eating with a duck soup.

Cambodian New Year's Days are coming on April 14-16, 2010. There are many Cambodian people joined the Cambodian New Year ceremony on April 11, at All Nations' Culture Center, Hanam Road 8, Gwangju city. In the ceremony, there are 5 Cambodian students from CNU-CSA, 4 students from CNU such as Mr. YOEUN Sereyvath, Mr. HEM Lina, Mr. PHAN Veasna and Mr. CHUM Puthy Roath, and a student from GIST, Mr. PHAN Kongkea.

2010 Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for International Students for Graduate Courses

Chonnam National University is accepting applications for Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for Graduate Programs. This program is designed to provide higher education in Korea for international students in order to promote international exchanges in education and mutual friendship between the participating countries. If you are interested, download the information file and send in the application by April 30, 2010.

9 Cambodian people visit South Korea

There are nine Cambodian people visit South Korea on February 10-15, 2010. They are working for Chang Min Industrial Construction Co., LTD. in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. On February 11, they visited three farms (Tomatos farm, Stoberry farm and Paprika farm) in Hwasun county. Mr. HUON Thavrak also accompanied them to visit those farms too.

The procedures:
57 universities can make recommendation up to 10 candidates to the NIIED, and NIIED will select only 150 scholars for 2010 undergraduate course from the worldwide.
If the candidate recommended by CNU and finally accepted, then they will study language and degree course in this university, or if they are recommended by the other university then they will study at that university.

The selection will be in order of higher score in all factors such as high school GPA score, language ability, recommendation letters, self introduction and study plan as well.
Beside the applicants must complete all the required document, and if some of documents are delay then they must fax us or email with scan file before the deadline.
